As a partner at SKS Law LLP, Jason Shelly focuses his practice on corporate and commercial law, municipal and land use planning, and estate and succession planning, and also assists clients with a range of disputes. He advises on the establishment of family foundations and other succession planning structures. In select and complex estate matters, Jason has been appointed as trustee, including in litigation involving active businesses and estates with assets located in the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Canadian provinces outside of Ontario, including Quebec. Jason values the opportunity to work in collaboration with clients’ accountants and tax advisers and is a trusted advisor to individuals, businesses, and municipalities, known for providing practical, strategic, and measured solutions tailored to his clients’ objectives.
After being called to the Ontario Bar in 2002, followed by the New York Bar in 2003, Jason worked in investment banking in London, UK, providing day-to-day legal guidance on capital markets and mergers and acquisitions. During this time, he was also appointed as counsel to the transaction committees of two global investment banks. His legal and commercial experience during this period extended across the UK, Europe, the United States, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America.
Prior to being called to the Ontario Bar, Jason worked for the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Canada.
Outside of work Jason is an avid alpine and cross-country skier and enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters. Jason is fluently bilingual offering legal services in both English and French and has a working knowledge of Spanish.
